Sacred Heart became a parish on November 26, 1862, when New York Archbishop, John H. Hughes appointed Father David O'Connor pastor.
Sacred Heart officially merged with Our Lady of Pompeii Parish in 2014, forming the Roman Catholic Church of Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Pompeii.
The blessing of the cornerstone of Sacred Heart Church took place in June of 1895. Local dignitaries officiated over a ceremony that included placing a time capsule containing crosses, copies of newspapers and other items inside the marker.
